1) Facilities Management & Operation - Unipen
2) Corrosion Management

Penspen provides comprehensive field services for pipelines and associated facilities through its subsidiary Unipen and in association with Corrosion Management activities. The engineering and management services of the Penspen Group can be integrated with these field services to provide supporting capability and a total service to Penspen clients.

1) Facilities Management & Operation - Unipen

Penspen has been providing asset management and operation services for pipelines and associated facilities through its Unipen subsidiary since 1987. Originally a joint venture with GATX Corporation of the USA, Unipen is now wholly owned by Penspen and provides an integrated service supported by the engineering and management capabilities of the Penspen Group.

Unipen is currently one of the largest independent pipeline operating companies
in the UK providing clients with a range of services including the following:
  • Total operations management of terminals, pipelines and facilities
  • Operation of all types of facilities associated with oil, gas and chemical pipeline systems
  • Maintenance of plant, equipment and buildings
  • Preventative maintenance programmes and manuals
  • Financial facilities management including budgeting and stock control
  • Control and supervision of third party activities, contractors and suppliers
  • Aerial patrols and ground surveillance
  • Land and property maintenance
  • Professional services for wayleaves and land acquisitions
  • Cathodic protection systems design, installation, maintenance and surveys
  • Safety and environmental audits, risk assessments, Major Accident Prevention and Safety Case documentation
  • Emergency plans and procedures
  • Emergency response

As a part of the Penspen Group, Unipen offers many advantages to clients over other facilities management and operation companies. All of the engineering and management services provided by Penspen are available as support services to Unipen and these commonly include:

  • design and engineering support services
  • emergency response planning services
  • client and operator training
  • construction supervision of repairs and rehabilitation
  • contract management services
  • procurement services
  • provision of technical resources
  • corrosion management services

In addition to undertaking facilities management and operation through Unipen on behalf of clients, Penspen is a pipeline owner and operator in its own right. In July 2001, Penspen increased its share of the ownership of Manchester Jetline Limited to 100% through acquisition of shares held by former partner GATX Corporation. The Manchester Jetline pipeline system supplies aviation fuel into Manchester International Airport from the Government Pipeline and Storage System and Unipen has provided all facilities management, operation and maintenance services for Manchester Jetline since its completion and commissioning in 1994.
