South-North Pipeline and Spur Extensions Project

BGE (Northern Ireland) propose to construct a Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline and associated above ground installations from its existing land fall terminal at Gormanston Co. Meath to the proposed above ground installation at Ballyalbanagh AGI, in Co. Antrim.

Penspen, in a joint venture with Kirk, McLure Morton, have been awarded the contract for the design, environmental studies, planning applications, project management and construction supervision for the project.

The pipeline will provide security of supply to both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland by linking Interconnectors 1 and 2 to the Scotland Northern Ireland Pipeline (SNIP). The pipeline would also make gas available to towns en-route including Newry, Armagh, Banbridge, Portadown, Lurgan, and Antrim.

It is proposed to construct the pipeline in 2006. The project scope includes 150km high pressure pipeline 18" in diameter, plus block valve installations and telecommunications infrastructure.
