Offshore Pipeline Legislation Course 

Course Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide an understanding of UK legislation in respect of the planning, design, construction, commissioning, operations, inspection, maintenance and abandonment of offshore pipelines.

Overview

The course addresses all planning and abandonment, major accident hazard and environmental protection legislation relevant to the offshore pipelines in the UK.  The roles of the principal regulatory authorities including the Department for Energy and Climate Change, the Health and Safety Executive and the Marine Management Organisation/Marine Scotland are discussed.  The course describes the principal Acts and Regulations that must be complied with including the Petroleum Act, the Pipelines Safety Regulations, the Safety Case Regulations, The Food and Environmental Protection Act, The Marine and Coastal Access Act/Marine Scotland Act.  The various processes that must be completed in order to gain the necessary authorisations and ensure legal compliance are detailed.


Who Should Attend


Pipeline engineers, designers and operators who require knowledge of risk assessment and management. This course is suitable for both managers and engineers who are involved in risk assessment and management, as well as for engineers who require a good, broad, understanding of these topics. Pipeline engineers, designers and operators involved in the planning, design, construction, commissioning, operations, inspection, maintenance and abandonment of offshore pipelines and who must ensure that such activities comply with the various legal duties. This course is suitable for both managers and engineers who are involved in the day to pipeline activities as well as managers and engineers who require a good, broad, understanding of these topics.

  • Dennis Keen, Principal Consultant with over 35 years experience in the oil and gas pipeline industry including time spent as a constructor, operator and safety regulator with both the Department of Energy and the Health and Safety Executive.
