Here is a profile of one of our recent interns, who spent a year in our London office.
Harry Mason, Graduate Engineer (Intern)
I joined Penspen in July 2015 after completing two years of my Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering at Brunel University.
I have learned so much during my time at Penspen, particularly with respect to industry codes and standards. I now have a thorough appreciation of how regulations are crucial in ensuring that systems will run safely and effectively.
My work has been very hands-on. I’ve been involved in producing specifications, datasheets, calculations and drawings for a number of projects throughout my year’s placement.
I have had the privilege of working across a range of engineering disciplines: Process, Control & Instrumentation, Civil, Pipeline and Material. Various tasks ranging from alignment sheet structuring to P&ID drafting have taught me valuable lessons in Front End Engineering Design (FEED) engineering for onshore gas projects.
In January 2016, I travelled to Ghana to kick off a FEED project for a natural gas transmission system. I was part of the team that carried out initial route surveying and data collection. The trip involved travelling up and down the country for two weeks assessing the overall terrain, vegetation, route landmarks and potential terminal locations. It was an amazing experience where I performed independently, met with clients and held discussions with stakeholders about potential interfacing in the future of the project.
The working environment at Penspen is very welcoming and the skilled team of engineers here have provided excellent guidance and experience for me to learn from.
