1GW Low Carbon Hydrogen Project
Introduction
Vertex Hydrogen is a leading player in energy transition, and the developers of the first large scale, low carbon hydrogen production hub in the UK. In its initial phases, the hub will produce 1GW of hydrogen (the equivalent energy use of a large UK city like Liverpool) and capture some 1.8 million tonnes of carbon per annum. By 2030, the hub is expected to deliver nearly 4GW of low carbon hydrogen – 40% of the UK Government’s national target. In addition, Vertex is investing an expected £1bn in the UK’s largest industrial region (the North West) to switch from fossil fuels to low carbon energy, helping to secure and grow vital industries and jobs, and unlocking billions of pounds of additional investment. Vertex is an integral part of HyNet, one of two of the UK Government’s Track 1 clusters for industrial decarbonisation.
Scope of Work
Vertex has contracted Penspen alongside strategic subcontractor Dalcour Maclaren to provide complete engineering and consenting expertise for the natural gas pipeline and related infrastructure providing a key fuel element required for the hydrogen production hub. The scope of work includes multidiscipline Front-end Engineering Design (FEED), consenting, land, environment, and stakeholder engagement services for the new 3km gas pipeline transporting natural gas to the hydrogen production hub site at Stanlow Manufacturing Complex.
With tailored and customised solutions, the Penspen team will provide Vertex with a critical element for its final investment decision for further project development, supporting the development of a hydrogen economy across the North West.
