Intelligent Pigging

Overview

The Intelligent Pigging course provides a comprehensive introduction to in-line inspection (ILI) and its role in modern pipeline integrity management. Delivered from an independent perspective, the course explores the full range of intelligent pigging technologies and their practical application in real-world pipeline systems. Participants will gain insight into how different inspection methods support risk reduction, improve data quality, and enhance decision-making for pipeline operators.

Objectives

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the principles and applications of key intelligent pigging technologies, including magnetic flux leakage (MFL), ultrasonic testing (UT), caliper tools, inertial measurement, and emerging methods
  • Differentiate between free-swimming, tethered, robotic, and hybrid inspection systems
  • Assess the suitability of different inspection approaches for specific pipeline conditions
  • Identify appropriate tools for various threat mechanisms
  • Monitor and validate inspection tool performance
  • Make informed, defensible decisions to optimize inspection outcomes and reduce risk
