Project Background

Penspen has been engaged to deliver detailed engineering services for the strategic upgrade of the North East Bab (NEB) oilfield in Abu Dhabi. This initiative plays a key role in supporting the UAE’s national goal to sustainably increase crude oil production and strengthen its energy infrastructure.

The project scope includes the enhancement of existing facilities and the integration of new technologies to optimise performance, improve operational efficiency, and ensure long-term production sustainability at the Bab field.

Services

Penspen’s engineering team will deliver a range of engineering solutions to support the upgrade, including:

  • Integration of new wells and upgrades to related infrastructure
  • Digital system enhancements for improved oil flow monitoring
  • Fire safety system upgrades at critical power stations
  • Installation of chemical injection systems to protect field assets
  • Replacement of manual valves with automated (MOV) systems
  • Upgrades to level monitoring instrumentation
  • Infrastructure improvements across coastal and marine zones
  • Installation of advanced vessel tracking systems for safer operations

Result

The contract award builds on Penspen’s strong track record with the client, a leading MENA EPC, and follows on from an additional contract award to deliver the detailed engineering for new multi-phase and water injection surface pumps at a separate key UAE oilfield.

With a history of successful project execution across technically complex oilfield developments in the region, Penspen is well-positioned to support the NEB upgrade and contribute Abu Dhabi’s broader ambition of increasing crude production to 5 million barrels per day by 2027 to ensure long-term energy security and strengthen the UAE’s position as a reliable global energy provider.

Commenting on the project, Arun Behl, Middle East Director of Sales & Marketing, said: “This award marks a continued phase of our involvement in one of the UAE’s key oilfields, reinforcing the trust placed in us by the same leading EPC contractor. It reflects both our proven technical expertise and the collaborative effort of our project team. We remain confident in our ability to add value and support the UAE’s goal of increasing oil production sustainably.”
