Project Background

One of the fastest growing growing EPC contractors in the MENA region has awarded Penspen a contract to provide detailed engineering services for the EPC works to enhance petroleum production at a major onshore oil field in the South-East region of Abu Dhabi, which plays a vital role in enhancing national energy security and regional economic growth.

Currently, the Central Gathering Facilities (CGF) in the oil field transfer un-stabilised well fluids through two Multi-Phase Pumps (MPPs) via a pipeline to a separate facility for processing and export.

Services

To meet the increased oil production demand, Penspen’s Abu Dhabi team will provide detailed engineering for the following:

  • A New Multi-Phase Pump (MPP): A third pump will be installed parallel to the existing pumps to handle the higher fluid volumes.
  • Four Water Injection Surface Pumps (WISPs): The new pumps will be integrated into the facility to supply water for injection. This process maintains reservoir pressure, a critical factor in maximising oil recovery rates and ensuring production sustainability.
  • Facility Integration: Our engineering efforts will focus on integrating the new systems with the existing CGF setup, including modifications to the control room and substation to enhance operational efficiency and ensure functionality

Penspen will utilise its experts in various fields to design, plan, and provide technical support for the new equipment and systems required for the project, including Process, HSE, Mechanical, Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation, Telecom, Materials Civil/Structural disciplines.

Procurement assistance will also be provided to ensure timely delivery of Long Lead Items (LLIs), with the new MPP and WISPs identified as priority equipment for procurement.

Result

Scheduled for completion in Q4 2025, Penspen will leverage its extensive experience in similar projects to support a leading EPC  Contractor in achieving the project’s objectives. Once completed, this initiative will help unlock and maximise value from Abu Dhabi’s oil and gas reserves, creating long-term and sustainable economic growth for the region and help meet the world’s growing demand for secure energy.
