Project Background

Growing demand for natural gas in the United Arab Emirates is driving continued investment in the country’s gas transportation infrastructure. Processed gas is moved through a nationwide network of pipelines and compressor stations that deliver fuel to power plants, industrial users and export facilities at the required pressure and quality.

To strengthen this network and prepare it for future demand, additional compression capacity is being added at the existing Habshan Gas Compressor Plant under Package 5 / Phase 2. These upgrades will help ensure gas can be transported efficiently and reliably as volumes and demand increase.

The new facilities planned for this phase include:

  • Two additional API 617 Centrifugal Sales Gas Compressors
  • Two pre-filters
  • Five trains of H₂S Scrubbers
  • Two post-filters
  • Two suction knock-out drums
  • Two air-cooled discharge heat exchangers
  • Other compressor auxiliaries

Services

Penspen will act as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) on behalf of the end client, providing independent oversight and management of the EPC Contractor to ensure the project is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in full compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.

Penspen will deploy a multi-disciplinary PMC team to support the EPC phase over the 39-month project duration. Key disciplines covered include:

  • Project Management & Project Controls
  • Construction Management & Site Supervision
  • Health, Safety & Environment
  • Planning & Scheduling
  • Quality Assurance / Quality Control
  • Commissioning & Start-Up Support
  • Engineering Discipline Oversight (Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil/Structural, Piping)

Result

Penspen brings long-standing experience in gas compression facilities and large-scale cross-country gas pipelines in the UAE and internationally. This combination of station-level compression expertise and system-wide gas transportation knowledge enables Penspen to add tangible value across the EPC phase of the Habshan Gas Compressor Plant upgrade.

The proposed expansion will strengthen the network’s ability to cater for future demand growth, improve system flexibility, and ensure sustained operational reliability across the UAE’s gas transportation infrastructure.
