Project Background
Uniper is a European energy company which in the UK owns and operates a flexible generation portfolio of power stations including Enfield, and Isle of Grain, a fast-cycle gas storage facility and two high pressure gas pipelines, from Theddlethorpe to Killingholme and from Blyborough to Cottam.
As well as continued delivery of robust energy, Uniper has identified potential decarbonisation solutions for these assets as well as addressing plant efficiency improvements which will lead to lower CO2 emissions.
Penspen has been working with Uniper in the UK for many years, providing maintenance services at the Enfield plant since 2002, and Isle of Grain since 2010. Following a competitive tender process, Penspen has been awarded a new three-year contract to continue the provision of operations and maintenance services for the two sites, ensuring the ongoing safe operations of both sites for future use.
Services
Based on a thorough review of existing work performed by Penspen, the new three-year contract sees our skilled technicians provide the following services:
- Vantage points
- Cathodic Protection checks
- Aerial Surveys
- Gas Detection Validation.
Additionally, Penspen will collaborate with Uniper, working to introduce new technologies in the power stations and pipeline sector. The development of new tools and processes will enable both companies to drive technical excellence in the measurement and analysis of critical site data, enhancing decision making for safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations and maintenance, and enabling further efficiency improvements to be identified.
Result
Through our long-standing partnership, Penspen has developed a deep understanding of Uniper’s business and strategy for the future of these critical power plants. This new contract and collaboration on innovation means Penspen will continue to leverage its extensive expertise in the maintenance and management of pipelines and power stations to support Uniper with operational continuity for Isle of Grain and Enfield as they continue to play a vital role in the UK’s energy security.
Commenting on the award, Amanda Cooper, Head of Performance at Penspen, said: “Securing this three-year contract is testament to the strength of our long-standing relationship with Uniper and the trust we’ve built over more than two decades. It reflects our shared commitment to excellence in operations and maintenance, and marks an exciting new phase as we collaborate to deliver advanced technology solutions in the field. We’re proud to support the future of Uniper’s power stations and contribute to the evolution of secure and sustainable energy in the UK.”
