Project Background

Our client, a leading Project Development Contractor, awarded Penspen a contract to provide detailed engineering services to support the EPC works for the development of a new passenger terminal at Kuwait International Airport and expansion of the hydrant system network to serve the new passenger terminal.

A hydrant system is a ground-based fuel distribution network that efficiently delivers jet fuel directly to aircraft via pipelines, reducing the need for fuel trucks and improving refuelling speed, safety, and overall operational efficiency at the airport.

Services

Engineers from Penspen’s regional head office in Abu Dhabi, UAE, are overseeing the project and will deliver a range of detailed engineering services to support the EPC scope, which includes:

  • Construction, procurement and supply of all materials, plant, equipment, and consumables.
  • Site preparation and associated civil work
  • Installation of new hydrant refuelling pit assemblies
  • Installation of new vent/drain assembly
  • Construction of new sectionalising valve chambers
  • Tie-in to existing hydrant pump discharge piping at KAFCO New Fuel depot
  • Installation of a new cathodic protection system
  • Installation of new RTUs in the NPT area including connection to existing control system at new fuel depot

Result

With the project set to complete in Q1 2025, the new passenger terminal and hydrant system at Kuwait International Airport will enhance refueling efficiency, safety, and operational capacity, supporting future growth and improving the passenger experience at Kuwait International Airport. Once operational, the new terminal will triple the airport’s capacity, allowing it to accommodate up to 25 million passengers annually.
