Project Background
Transportadora de Gas del Perú (TGP) designs, builds, and operates the Camisea pipeline system, which transports natural gas and gas liquids from the Amazon Basin to Lima. The system is critical to ensuring Peru’s energy supply, carrying 96% of of the country’s natural gas.
The pipeline extends 834 km, starting at the Malvinas Plant in the Amazon, crossing the Andes Mountains alongside the NGL pipeline to the Diversion Point near Humay, and then following the Pacific coast to the Lurín City Gate near Lima.
Penspen has been a trusted partner of TGP for more than seven years, providing technical support and expertise in pipeline and energy infrastructure integrity.
Services
Under a new three-year contract, Penspen’s in-country asset integrity team will provide technical advisory services for the integrity assessment of TGP’s transportation pipeline systems. The scope of work includes:
- Consulting on the definition and development of Integrity Management strategies
- Verification, analysis, and interpretation of results obtained in integrity assessments, such as ILI and NDT inspections.
- Analysis of data obtained from direct or indirect inspections, integration of data, and verification results from field inspections.
- Interpretation of laboratory analyses of solid samples resulting from the passage of internal tools and solids retained in filter equipment.
- Consulting services for specialised studies and analyses addressing various pipeline integrity threats, including Failure Analysis (FA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), soil-pipeline modelling, Fitness for Service (FFS) analysis of cracks, dents, and other mechanical defects, fatigue analysis, among others.
- Semi-quantitative and quantitative risk analysis of pipelines and plants.
- Training in inspection techniques and integrity analysis.
Result
Penspen’s continued technical support helps TGP safeguard and enhance the integrity and reliability of one of Peru’s most critical energy infrastructures. The Camisea pipeline system is responsible for transportation of the majority of the nation’s gas supply and supports approximately 40% of the country’s electricity generation, so its safe and continuous operation is essential to national energy security and economic activity.
Commenting on the project, Gustavo Romero, Director of LATAM Operations said: “We are proud to continue supporting TGP in protecting one of Peru’s most strategic energy assets. Our long-standing relationship reflects Penspen’s deep understanding of pipeline integrity challenges and our firm commitment to working side by side with TGP’s technical teams to address the unique demands of the Camisea system. Through this renewed contract, we will continue delivering practical solutions that enhance performance and help ensure safe and reliable operations”.
John Malpartida, Head of Integrity, and Giancarlo Massucco, Right of Way Manager, at TGP, added: “Ensuring the integrity of the Camisea pipeline system is fundamental to Peru’s energy security. Penspen’s specialized expertise in pipeline integrity and their deep understanding of the unique challenges we face make them an invaluable partner. This renewed contract strengthens our commitment to maintaining the highest safety and reliability standards across our operations, backed by a team that combines world-class technical capabilities with hands-on, in-country support”.
