Penspen Training Courses Achieve IGEM Recognition

Penspen’s asset management training courses were recently recognised by IGEM, the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers.

This prestigious recognition demonstrates that Penspen’s training courses that are related to high pressure gas transmission systems, pressure control and engineering maintenance fully meet the IGEM recognition requirements, a stringent set of criteria that encourage the highest standards of safe and effective gas training.

All courses that seek IGEM recognition must undergo a formal audit process and meet key criteria. The audit assesses:

  • Course lesson plans, including clear expectations, objectives, and explanations of how the course material will be delivered
  • Course duration, delegate numbers, and pre-qualification requirements to attend the course
  • The facilities used to deliver the course, and what equipment, appliances, visual aids and other requirements are provided to deliver the training
  • Course material including handouts and other physical resources
  • Trainer competence, looking at the trainers’ experience in both training and the vocational activity they are training the delegates in
  • Learner assessment and how it aligns with the course objectives
  • Assessor competence
  • Delegate feedback – what methods are used to enable learners to give feedback on all aspects of the course
  • Course evaluation and review – how often the team review the course effectiveness and what steps are taken to ensure any necessary changes are made

Having successfully completed the formal audit process, Penspen is now able to promote our asset management training courses with the quality mark of being IGEM Recognised – a major achievement that further demonstrates our excellent training capabilities to clients.

Continued progress

The IGEM recognition is the latest in a series of exciting updates from our training service line in recent months.

In October 2024, we launched our training brochure to highlight our training capabilities spanning asset management, asset integrity, pipeline legislation, and energy transition. This was followed by the launch of our online booking system for training courses, making it even easier for delegates to secure their place on one of our courses. Initially launched for our energy transition training courses, this has now been rolled out to all training courses via our training booking website.

The team have continued to grow and expand our course offering, with three new courses launched in the last year, covering:

Rick Murfet, Head of Technical Training, commented: “This is a significant achievement for our asset management training team, and a mark of quality that reflects the high standard of training that we deliver. Our courses balance theory and hands-on practical experience and our course trainers are experts in their respective fields – that’s why we’ve been trusted over the years to deliver training for major energy sector companies and household names. Now, with this recognition, we’re thrilled to be able to offer even more peace of mind and confidence to our training clients that our courses meet IGEM’s high standards and that delegates are in safe hands to bring them up to an excellent level of competency. Thank you to all the team involved in securing this milestone.”

  • Our training course dates for the rest of 2025 are now live, with courses coming up spanning energy transition, pipeline legislation, asset management, and asset integrity. To view our full range of courses and secure your spot, visit our training site.
